Grocery Shopping is Expensive

  Grocery Shopping is Expensive!

I often hear people say that they eat meals prepared outside the home because it's cheaper than buying groceries. I wanted to put this theory to a little test.

I made breakfast sandwiches, the ones shown above. I chose to make English muffin with sausage, egg and cheese. (As you can see I am not a Food Photographer!)

I bought the ingredients and priced out the cost per sandwich. My sandwich cost $2.25. I visited 3 different breakfast restaurants to see the prices on their sandwiches, which ranged from $6.55 to $7.49. So, it is not cheaper to order food. I think it feels more expensive to grocery shop when we see the sticker-shock when we pay for those groceries.

As a disclaimer, I will say prices will vary depending on where you live and shop. I did not shop at a discount grocery store.

The other cost to grocery shopping is Time. Yes, I did have to spend time cooking and cleaning. I decided to make 4 sandwiches, one was eaten for my lunch. The other three were placed in sandwich baggies, then in a freezer baggie. So for about 30 minutes worth or work, I now have 3 microwavable sandwiches. I also have the eggs, cheese, sausages and English muffins that I did not use today that I can use for another meal at another time.
